I believe that we, as humans, are who we are because of our layers, and our layers come from the human experience. If we are alive, we have had the unique opportunity of living through moments of chaos and calm, intense joy and equally as intense pain. The breaths we have taken have been filled with feelings that words maybe can't describe. And each and every single one have brought us to where, and who, we are today.
And your breaths, your moments, have written your story. And the beauty and pain of it is that it keeps changing.
And because of that, and because ALL the moments matter, not just the "good" ones, I have created a business that honors it all and have created The Layers of You experience.
It is an opportunity to honor your layers, whichever ones are meaningful to you. For example, perhaps you strongly identify as a provider for your family, or you love who you are and what you do as a professional. So, in your photographic journey, you’d start by honoring that layer. We’d begin photographing you in your professional best (whatever that means to you) to get some headshots and professional photos you can use in business. Then perhaps you’d like to honor the YOU that comes home from work, so you’d then change into a “lounge around the house” outfit. Or maybe you had a moment where you just looked at yourself in the mirror one day and finally, REALLY saw yourself - and wept as you felt the self love wash over you. We can recreate that powerful moment and document it forever, so that you’ll never fall back into the trap of self-hatred again.
This experience is tailored to you and the layers of yourself you’d like to show some love.
I do believe honoring your human form, this physical body that has brought you to this moment in life, is an incredibly important layer to respect, honor, and adore. So many people take their bodies for granted, complain about them, and tear themselves apart. Many of us have body issues. However, how many of us think about this physical form with love and adoration for everything it does for us every second of the day? You are encouraged to shed not only your emotional layers, but also the layers of clothing during the photoshoot and experience your physical body as a piece of art. Yes, this is a vulnerable moment, but I have found that it is an extremely important layer of self to photograph. Ultimately, it is your choice as to how undressed you are comfortable with during your photoshoot.
Throughout the shoot, the changing and removal of the physical layers of clothes is symbolic for the emotional freedom you undergo internally as you become more emotionally vulnerable with each outfit change. And with that vulnerability, comes strength and confidence, causing your internal light to shine brightly.
In photographing YOU in each layer, you are taking the time to honor that identity - the professional, the music lover, the emotional journey of summiting a mountain, your most vulnerable and naked self, whatever layers you choose to memorialize - all. of the pieces of “you” that you refuse to continue to hide and ignore. Each layer you have is what makes you uniquely you and each part deserves to be given the time and space to be honored, released, acknowledged, accepted, and/or celebrated.
All humans, all ages, have a story. And it would truly be an honor to tell yours. You are ready to fully take the space you deserve. I promise.
